Dutch womens soccer team coach, Vera Pauw, has removed Dyanne Bito and Claudia van den Heiligenberg from the national team selection.
The exact reason for Pauw's decision is not known but both the players and the coach indicate that it has to do with private matters.
"Personal reasons," confirms Pauw in the Dutch newspaper AD. The trainer emphasizes that the duo's behaviour 'was not having a positive influence on the performances.'
Rumor
Rumor has it that the players are involved in a relationship with one another and that the nature of that relationship is the reason behind coach Vera Pauw's decision.
The coach herself has hinted in that direction by indicating that the decision isn't based on performances on the pitch.
"Even if Claudia had been performing perfectly I still would have had to remove her from the squad together with Dyanne."
It is the first time that Pauw removed one or more players from the team.
Private
Both Van den Heiligenberg and Bito don't want to go into detail about the reasons behind Pauw's decision. "It's private" was both players reply.
Van den Heiligenberg later told the news website Nu.nl that she thinks she still has a chance of getting back on the squad."It's such an honour to play for the Dutch national team. I hope that I will be able to do that again in the future."
Performances
Recently the squad has performed disappointingly after the successful European Championships in Finland last summer where they reached the semi-finals. In the qualifiers leading up to the World Championships in Germany in 2011, they lost to Norway and drew with Belarus. Their chances of reaching the final rounds of the tournament are as good as lost.
Furthermore neither Bito nor Van den Heilignberg had been certainties in coach Pauw's recent match line-ups.
